Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
