Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he loved taking part in different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After graduating from high school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and moved to New York to participate in some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were rough as he played extensive hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he might improve his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more rest and focus attention more on the game.
The actual improvement in his game happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would often compete against each other. Howard had access into some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking skills. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit hold’em.
Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in cash games for the next decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
