Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
