Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players in the world might just be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
