Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world may be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha hold’em and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
