Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked betting on numerous card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York City to compete in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st two years were tough as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He believed he possibly could improve his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and focus attention more on the game.

The actual advancement in his abilities began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would often play against each other. He was able to access some of the best minds in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best female players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
