Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. an additional round of betting happens and then the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize exactly three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same notion in nearly all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand wins the complete pot.

Although it seems complicated at first, following a few rounds you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play easily enough. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming collection of wagering options and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, along with many shooting for the low. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi lo.
