Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
