Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
