Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he enjoyed playing different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to play some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he would play countless hours and fail to win most times. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could better his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and concentrate even more on poker.
The actual improvement in his abilities happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would often challenge one another. He had access into some of the best players in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker arena today. He relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the following decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
