Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
