Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
