Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
