Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complicated but favored poker variations. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure variation, has grown in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few players often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize exactly 3 cards from the board, and exactly 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in nearly every poker game.
The low hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the whole pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, after a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha hi/lo provides an overwhelming collection of betting possibilities and because you have many players trying for the high hand, as well as a few trying for the low hand. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
