Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best poker players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
